The third largest city of Pakistan after Karachi and Lahore, Faislabad is located in the province of Punjab and 80 miles from Lahore. Formerly called Lyallpur, after Sir Charles James Lyall, lieutenant governor of the Punjab, Faislabad has earned the epithet of " Little Manchester " thanks to its thriving textile industry. It was re-named Faisalabad to perpetuate the memory of King Faisal of Saudi Arabia in 1997.
Home to the Punjab's Agriculture University, Faisalabad is developing into a modern city with a seamless blend of old and new traditions. Among the major highlights of the city is the famous the "Clock Tower" in the center of the city which is a must see for the tourists. The city is a center of many industries including chemical fertilizers, drugs and pharmaceuticals, synthetic fibers, canned products, textiles, hosiery, ghee, oil, soap, sugar and flour.
