Pakistan's most prestigious film festival, the Kara Film Festival is held in the cities of Karachi and Lahore in Pakistan. The Film Festival ranks amongst the top events of its type in Asia. It is the premiere showcase for film makers from Asia and the world.
Karachi has been a venue for the film festivals since a long time. The festivals attracted a large number of audiences and some of the best filmmakers in the world including Satyajit Ray in the 1960s.
Organized under the auspices of the KaraFilm Society, a grouping of committed young filmmakers, the KaraFilm Festival celebrates cinema. The goal of the film festival is to promote an appreciation of the art and craft of filmmaking in Pakistan. The festival has done a lot to promote creativity and high standards among filmmakers. The motion picture industry in Pakistan has found a boost thanks to the efforts of the KaraFilm Society.

Among the Indian films which were screened at the festival are "Khamosh Pani" silent waters" which also won the Grand Prize at Locarno Film Festival. The world premiers of "Paap" a Mahesh Bhatt production directed by his daughter Pooja Bhatt and "Ghar ki Talash" were also held at the festival. The festival also attracted movies from USA, UK, Europe and Bangladesh.
